Northeast Frontier Railway installs roof top solar panels with 6110.233 kwp capacity
DIMAPUR — With an aim to achieve net zero carbon emission target by 2030 by reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has stepped up efforts to generate more green energy through the installation of solar power plants across the zone.
“Roof-Top Solar power plants have been commissioned throughout the Northeast Frontier Railway generating 6110.233 Kilo Watt Peak (kwp) till December, 2023. This will, in turn, save 46.83 lakh units that amounts to approximately INR 3.74 crore annually in energy bills,” stated an update from Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR.
Under ‘Go-Green’ mission, solar rooftop panels have been fitted at 45 stations and other service buildings in Assam, generating 4509 kwp; 24 stations in West Bengal (554.20 kwp); 11 stations in Bihar (390 kwp); 16 stations in Tripura (335 kwp); two stations in Nagaland (120 kwp); and one station in Meghalaya (10 kwp), said the update.
‘Apart from this, 192.033 kwp of solar rooftop systems were commissioned at 388 level crossing gates of Assam, Bihar and West Bengal,’ it added.
The NFR informed that it will commission 1871 kwp capacity of solar rooftop systems in the region in the last quarter of the current financial year, to meet the energy requirements. These include 892 kwp in various locations of Rangiya Division, 384 kwp in Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Complex, Maligaon, it said, adding that there is a plan to commission 495 kwp and 100 kwp capacity panels in various stations and service buildings of Lumding and Alipurduar division respectively.
