Northeast Frontier Railway collects INR 66.27 crore from ticketless travellers

DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has updated that a total of 7,93,170 cases ticketless and irregular ticket passengers were detected during the period from April, 2023 to March, 2024, resulting in collection of INR 66.27 crore ‘towards realisation of fare and penalties from offenders’.

The amount collected from ticketless travellers from the current fiscal year, April 1 to May 19 is more than INR. 10.65 crore, it added.

The revenue collected from offenders during the FY 2023-24 was 5.23% higher than previous FY (2022-2023) which saw a collection of INR 62.98 crore from 7,78,808 cases.

The NFR informed that it has been conducting regular intensive ticket checking drives to ensure a hassle-free, comfortable travel and better services to genuine passengers, adding that travelling without proper ticket or beyond authorised distance may lead to levy of excess charge and fare; those who refuse or fail to pay fine will be prosecuted under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989.
