A four-day Northeast festival got underway at the Stone Sculpture Garden of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) on March 25.

Speaking at the inaugural function, NEZCC director Gouri Basu shared that the eight sisters of Northeast have numerous tribes and ethnic groups adding that each of them has distinct culture, dance, musical instrument, cuisine.

“I think highlighting this is very important not only in NE states but even across the country,” she said. Stating that many NE people might not know about the distinct arts of its states, she stressed on the importance to know about the rich culture of the region.

Meanwhile, the organisers have invited all the citizens to the festival stating it is free for everyone.

Presentation day-one included Juju Jaja by Arunachal Pradesh, Totimi Aphilo Kuwo by Chekiya Cultural Club, Bordoishikla by Assam, Anyitsi Yongdi Jingthing Nyichi by Tsongdi club, Dhol Dholak Cholum by Manipur, Mungyanta by Yantala cultural club, Wangala by Meghalaya, Dhamail Dance Bengali by colours of India, folk song by Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Choral song was presented by the Nagagenous choir.
