Kohima, Nov. 19 (EMN):
The North Police Station in Kohima was on Thursday awarded with ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management System, becoming the first government agency in the state to receive such recognition.

The whole process of the certification was completed in a span of 30 days and was initiated by the Kohima Police.

The process involved online application, documentation, online auditing, upgrading the existing facilities and adding other elements. The sole objective was to improve the quality of public service and to make the police station more people-friendly and accessible, informed Kohima Police on Thursday.

To meet the specified parameters, the police station has streamlined the process of character/passport verifications and the system of filing and record keeping. Further, the infrastructure of the police station was upgraded and disposal of various complaints has been made time-bound, besides other measures, it added.

The police station also provides various help desks and amenities including a reception desk, para legal volunteers help desk, separate interrogation and investigation room, separate space for visitors, clean drinking water and several other visitor-friendly amenities.

North Police Station was awarded the ISO certification after meeting specified parameters of QMS on policing and related scope of activities, which, includes maintenance of public peace, law and order, prevention, detection and investigation of crime and criminal activities, emergency response, VIP security and prevention of human trafficking.

According to the police, the up-gradation will positively result in better service delivery to the public and uplift the level of proficiency in police administration. Further, the ISO certification has helped to ensure that the police personnel routinely evaluate its working and implement remedial measures, as and when required.

The North Police Station, Kohima, was established in 1993, as the first police station under Naga Hills district by the British regime. The police station is located in the heart of the state capital and is headed by an inspector rank officer-in-charge and 88 other ranks.

ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a QMS. The organisation uses the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. It is the most popular standard in the ISO 9000 series and the only standard in the series to which organisations can certify.
