DIMAPUR — The five-day North East NSS Festival 2026 commenced on Monday at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, bringing together around 300 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from all eight Northeastern states on the theme "Viksit Bharat."
The inaugural session was held at the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma, where Advisor for School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, called upon NSS volunteers to uphold the ideals of selfless service, leadership, and national integration.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yhome lauded the organisers for providing a common platform for volunteers from across the Northeast to celebrate the spirit of service, cultural diversity, and unity.
He said that despite the region's diverse languages and traditions, it remains united by a shared commitment to serving humanity.
Describing the festival as an opportunity for learning and collaboration, he said it would enable volunteers to build friendships, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and inspire positive change in their communities.
He encouraged the participants to uphold the values of the National Service Scheme with pride and commitment.

Conveying his best wishes, Dr. Yhome expressed hope that every participant would return home with lasting friendships, valuable experiences, and renewed inspiration to serve society.
State NSS Officer, Nagaland, Ruokuovituo Zatsu, informed that the festival features cultural exchange programmes, quiz competitions, technical sessions, sightseeing, and a cleanliness drive.
He said that around 300 NSS volunteers have registered for the event.
An introductory note was presented by D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, NSS, North Eastern Region.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Subenthung P Tsopoe, Programme Officer, NSS, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, while Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal of the college, delivered the welcome address.
The festival is being organised by the State NSS Cell, Nagaland, and hosted by Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
