North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research welcomes new students with a vision to master 30 essential skills for social change and peacebuilding.

DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, welcomed Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students on January 21.
The event began with a vision-setting address by Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal, titled "The architect of social change: mastering the 30 essential skills”, marking the beginning of the 3-day orientation programme, stated an update.
Addressing the students, Dr. Fr. Anto stated that entering the campus is not merely an admission into a college, but an entry into a mission-driven laboratory for social transformation. He reiterated the institution's belief that a Social Work degree is not a certificate of what one has read, but a testament to the skills one masters.
Social workers were described as "social architects" who employ high-level competencies to rebuild broken systems. NEISSR introduced its framework of 30 essential professional and life skills, clarifying that these skills are developed progressively throughout all semesters.

The importance of 'The art of engagement' was stressed, highlighting counselling and empathetic listening. Students were oriented toward developing cultural competence and inclusivity. Emotional intelligence and stress management were also highlighted as essential capacities.
Recognising social work as both an art and a science, NEISSR focused on 'The power of analysis', including critical thinking and research writing. Students were encouraged to transform field experiences into knowledge that informs policy.
The principal also reiterated the focus on peacebuilding, dialogue, and reconciliation. Students are introduced to conflict resolution and mediation as core competencies. The address further highlighted operational excellence and management skills, including project planning and digital literacy.
