DIMAPUR — The International Relations (IR) Programme, North East Christian University (NECU), observed the 76th International Human Rights Day on December 10, themed, “Human Rights, our everyday essentials”.
On the occasion, a message on the theme was shared by Dr. Chibenthung Yanthan, assistant professor, IR Programme, wherein he highlighted the historical basis and necessity upon which the United Nations (UN) felt the urgent need to adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on December 10, 1948, and subsequently adopted December 10 as the historic Human Rights Day in 1950.

According to an update, while reflecting upon the current discourse on Human Rights, he lamented that the concerning trends of war and conflict, inequality, discrimination, marginalisation of the minorities, poverty, and crime against women portray the concerning trends of violations happening in everyday lives despite the multitude of global development.
Hence, he encouraged the participants to reflect upon the necessity of everyone playing an important role in being an agent of change and not merely expect the international organisations, governments and state actors to implement the policies.
The message was followed by the recitation of the UDHR Articles. The programme concluded with a closing remark from Dr. Keneisenuo Solo, coordinator and assistant professor, IR Programme.
