Normal life affected in Manipur hills by bandh

IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 27

The normal life in the hill districts of Manipur have been affected in view of the 12 hour total Bandh called by the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur(ATSUM)led by Emboi Serto.
The vehicular movements including the inter-district passengers’ services along the inter-district roads including the two National Highways (Imphal-Mao and Imphal-Jiribam) were also severely affected in view of the bandh which come to end at 6 this evening.
The bandh was called in protest against the government’s failure to fulfill the demands of ATSUM led by Emboi Serto. ATSUM had expressed displeasure over state government’s failure to respond to its representation submitted on November 12.
The Council of Tribal Languages and Literature Society of Manipur had endorsed the Charter of demands of the All Tribal Students Union Manipur which were submitted to the State Government recently.
Family members killed in accident: Three members of a family including a 9 month old baby girl were killed while another villager sustained critical injury in a road accident in Manipur’s Tamenglong district yesterday, reports reaching here said. The incident took place around 11 in the morning when a truck which was heading to Tamenglong district headquarter, about 150 km west of Imphal, falls into a gorge located in between Tousem Khullen and Tousem Khunou under Tamenglong district, the report added. The 9 months old deceased baby girl has been identified as Taksuile while her deceased parents are Anand and Kelakyineih. Source added that Anand who hails from Ngaikhong village has been reportedly settled with his Zeme wife in Tamenglong.The injured villager is said to be a resident of Thiulon village of the district.
