DDMA Noklak and Mokokchung review monsoon damage, road restoration and disaster preparedness
DIMAPUR — District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) officials in Noklak and district authorities in Mokokchung held separate meetings to review damage caused by continuous rainfall, assess the availability of essential supplies, and strengthen disaster response measures.
In Noklak, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of the DDMA P Mono Khiamniungan chaired an emergency meeting of the DDMA on Wednesday in his office chamber, according to a DIPR report.
During the meeting, the executive engineer (EE), Public Works Department (PWD) (Roads & Bridges), and contractors highlighted damages to multiple culverts, retaining walls, and landslides across the Noklak to Chandang Saddle Road. The house discussed the importance of immediate restoration, as the road is the only lifeline connecting to the district headquarters, and decided to request the concerned authority for immediate necessary action.
Regarding the Noklak to Pangsha road, the EAC Sadar apprised the house of the need to restore a culvert at Shimong River to avoid further damage to the road. The EE PWD (R&B) of Noklak was entrusted to look into the matter.
In regards to medical storage, the chief medical officer of the District Hospital, Noklak, reported a shortage of essential stock and requested a vehicle to transport essential drugs from Kohima. The house decided to requisition mini trucks from the Assistant Commandant of VG, Noklak.

For the supply of essential commodities, the present availability in the market was reported by the Food and Civil Supplies department, Noklak. The DC requested the department to keep track of stock availability during the monsoon.
On relief materials, the house discussed the importance of keeping emergency stock and decided to request the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority to provide relief materials.
Regarding the Lein River Bridge, the EE PWD (R&B) Noklak informed the house that the bridge was severely damaged by a flash flood and requires urgent restoration, as it is the only road connecting Panso area villages to the district headquarters.
In Mokokchung, DC Ajit Kumar Verma convened a district-level coordination meeting with heads of departments and representatives of civil society organisations at the DC's conference hall on July 21 following numerous disaster incidents reported across different parts of the district after days of incessant rainfall.
According to an update, the meeting reviewed reports submitted by various departments on the prevailing situation, discussed coordinated measures to address existing challenges and formulated an action plan to strengthen disaster response.
The meeting also focused on enhancing overall preparedness and ensuring coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to effectively respond to any further eventualities arising from the continuing adverse weather conditions.
