Noklak and Wokha celebrate success of PMGKAY scheme

Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the department of Food and Civil Supplies in Noklak and Wokha districts celebrated the success of ‘Anna Yojana and Public Distribution System (PDS)’ on April 21.

Speaking at the programme in Noklak, the deputy commissioner, Hiazu Meru, stated that Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is an additional allocation of food grains to all the beneficiaries covered under the targeted public distribution system free of cost. The DC mentioned that the scheme is a pro-poor initiative taken up as a part of the economic response to Covid-19 to ameliorate the hardships faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by the coronavirus. It provided additional food grains of 5 kg per person per month.

Stating that ‘Anna Yojana and Public Distribution System’ marks the success stories of the great nation, Meru urged all the beneficiaries to give full support and cooperation to the government. He also released a brochure during the occasion.

Senior inspector of supplies, Noklak, Metsisieto Zhasa, mentioned that five phase of PMGKAY has been successfully implemented in the district. He also informed that PMGKAY Phase -VI has been flagged off from April to September 2022.

The programme in Wokha was held at Tiyi hall with the ADC of Wokha, T Lamkonsen Tsanglao as the special guest.

Tsanglao stated that PMGKAY scheme has benefitted many people particularly the daily wage earners and farmers after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Stating that the government has introduced many schemes and policies to uplift the living standard of the rural people, he lamented that those schemes and projects were not properly implemented. He, therefore, urged all the village functionaries, and colony chairmen to ensure that the public get their due share.

ADS of Wokha, Mhonthung Tungoe, informed that PMGKAY is a scheme of the

government of India as a part of economic response to ameliorate the hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by coronavirus.

He stated that a total of 18756 card holders in the district have been benefitted under the scheme. He urged all the beneficiaries to avail the benefit. He also lauded the FPS owners and village council for timely distribution of the relief materials to the beneficiaries.
