Dimapur, January 31
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he ‘youth wing’ of the Naga People’s Front legislators led by Noke Wangnao on Saturday issued statement stating that a floor test was “beyond the constitutional purview of the governor when more than 50 plus MLAs are on the treasury bench out of 60 member house.”
The current impasse can be resolved through “proper consultation with the governor’ and not through a floor test, the group asserted. The group expressed ‘concern’ on January 31 “for the prevalence of the majority party and the majority government in our country and also the integrity of the democratic principles.”
“In regard to the demand for the floor test to the governor chair, it is beyond the constitutional purview of the governor when more than 50 plus MLAs are on the treasury bench out of 60 member house,” the statement from the ‘media cell of the NPF central wing (N).’
The group stated that the current political crisis can be resolved only through “proper consultation with the governor and not inside the house floor test.” The statement explained: “The current political warfare is purely within NPF legislature and therefore the matter has to be resolve only through proper consultation with the governor and not inside the house floor test.” The “minority NPF party”, the statement said, “especially the frontal youth wing is not supposed to teach the governor who is a constitutional expert rather learn from the honorable governor.”
The youth unit of the Noke-led legislators of the Naga People’s Front issued the statement on Saturday “drawing serious attention to the subsequent misinterpretation of the present NPF crisis by the minority media cell, particularly the frontal youth wing.”
“Ever since the democratic form of government prevailed in India before and after independence, the majority formed the government and run the country smoothly. In supportive documentary evidence to the ongoing NPF party crisis, the following electoral politics in Nagaland needs to be taken into consideration by the general public and leaders from various affiliations,” the wing stated.
“In Nagaland, there are only two MPs, one from upper House and another from lower House. The lone upper house member H Khekiho Zhimomi was elected from 60 members Nagaland Legislative Assembly representing 60 constituencies through proportional system,” the youth wing stated.
“Likewise, the lone lower house member Neiphiu Rio who represents the whole Nagaland state was elected from NPF ticket by the Naga electorates. Then when the only two NPF MPs and 21 NPF MLAs out of 37 NPF MLAs excluding speaker are in favor of Kaito’s leadership. Then who is the majority in the NPF set up?”
Therefore, the youth wing of the Noke-led legislators stated, it was a concern for the “prevalence of the majority party and the majority government in our country and also the integrity of the democratic principles.”
“If the majority strength fail to overcome the minority at this juncture due to some unconstitutional unfair means, it will create wrong precedence in the history of Indian politics and the future of the largest democracy in the world will be at stake,” the statement added.
