A state-wide Sanitation Awareness Campaign Yatra (tour) under the initiative of Water & Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO) of PHE department was officially flagged off from Raj Bhavan area Kohima by Minister for PHED Noke Wangnao today. Dimapur-based upcoming youth group, Dreams Unlimited, will take the lead role in the State-wide tour and travel to all the 11 districts of the State. The tour is being undertaken under the theme “Creation of public awareness on Good Sanitary Practices” through dramas, songs and literature.
The tour will focus on need of totally doing away with the bad practice of open defecation, the importance of ‘washing hands with soap’, need of keeping villages clean with proper solid and liquid waste management.
The Sanitation Yatra has been organized as part of the activities of the National Sanitation Awareness Campaign being observed all over the country from September 25 to October 31 under the direction of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, government of India.
