NOH judges say yes to 4 contestants from Dimapur

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]UT of 14 contestants from Dimapur district, four have earned the ticket to the Naga Orpheus Hunt race. The audition was conducted today, September 20 at Hotel Saramati Dimapur. The contestants who have gain access to the screening round to be held at Mokokchung on September 27 are Abetoli Awomi, Nokyimwaba, Ajungba Longkumer and Pongchai Konyak.Comparing to previous year’s Dimapur audition, the ‘wow factor’ was missing this time. The judges looked disappointed since they could not find what they are looking for. They even went to the extent of making each contestant to sing at least two to three numbers and yes, for a particular contestant a second chance was given to prove his worth but sadly, he could not convince them.
However, towards the end, Ajungba Longkumer, a 21-year-old lad wowed the judges and woke them up from a nearing slumber. He sang Luther Vandross’ song Dance with My Father. Responding to the performance, the chief judge of the competition Tali Angh commented that it was the best audition of the day and he has a “unique voice”. Longkumer also revealed that the song connects him to his late father.
Some interesting things about today’s audition were, 21-year-old Abetoli Awomi sang Devine Connection’s My All, which was a bit of a surprise as well as an encouragement. Observing the various singing competitions held in Nagaland, contestants usually opt to sing covers of international artistes. Also, Pongchai Konyak, 20-year-old not only unveiled his singing talent but he was also made to dance at the request of Moanungsang.
The judges for today’s audition were Tali Angh, Moanunsang and Aheli Moitra.
Meanwhile, the organizer of the show – Roots will be conducting another audition at Mokokchung on September 26 from 10:00 am onwards. Interested aspirants from all the districts who have missed their chance can pack their bags and rush to Mokokchung. The venue of the audition will be at Eastern Talkies.
