The project has a budget of around Rs. 1 crore which will be from the community, and with machineries from the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC). This was informed by Jain Samaj’s President Om Prakash Jain at a programme organised by the community on Friday, March 3. Earlier the community had approached the Nagaland government for assistance with their road condition grievances for several years. However with no positive response from the government, the community decided to take the responsibility. It will benefit the people living in the vicinity and Dimapur in general. With contributions from Jain individuals, the community will not seek for financial assistance from the DMC. The road will be constructed within three months, Jain assured. He maintained that CCTV cameras will be installed in the area too. Jain also assured that the community will continue to maintain the road. Construction work on the road started on Saturday, March 3. The DMC’s administrator H Atokhe Aye lauded the community for taking up the cause. He assured cooperation to the community. Communities should involve in the development of the city, he remarked. He expressed hope that other communities would follow suit and contribute to Dimapur’s development. During the previous year, two 11-year old girls from the Jain community residing at Kalibari Road in Dimapur had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the horrible condition of roads in Dimapur town with special reference to the Jain Temple road. They had requested the PM to take action.
