Kohima, April 9 (EMN): Following the meeting with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) and NSCN (IM) leaders earlier this week, the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue comprising all 60 legislators and two members of Parliament from the state had a meeting at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima on Saturday.
The secretary of the committee, Neiba Kronu, who is also the minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Land Revenue, and Planning and Coordination, told journalists after the meeting that the opinions of the members were taken and the meeting of the core committee with the WC-NNPG and NSCN (IM) leadership held on April 4 was updated to the members.
He informed that no resolution was adopted at the meeting, which was attended by more than 50% of legislators, adding that some MLAs are currently in Delhi.
He also informed that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman TR Zeliang, and Deputy CM Y Patton plan to meet top central leaders in the coming week.
The CM and UDA chairman will leave for Delhi soon, while the deputy CM is already in the national capital, it was informed.
Kronu said that the leaders from the state will convey “the message” to the government of India but did not specify what message they would relay to the central leaders.
He added that both the facilitators (committee) and negotiating parties are ‘talking’ at their respective levels and had shared their thoughts during the last consultative meeting ‘but there is no such concluding remark’ to take on.
Earlier, the leader of Naga People’s Front legislature party and UDA Chairman TR Zeliang had informed that the core committee was planning to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah to ascertain GOI’s latest position about the issue after the assembly session.
He further clarified that the state leaders’ frequent meeting with central leaders were ‘not for any developmental package or other purposes’ but to know GOI’s position so that the contentious issue could be amicably settled.
