Kohima, March 8 (EMN): Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS) in Kohima commemorated International Women’s Day by celebrating women from the past, present and future, on Monday.
Dr. Angelina Solo, medical officer, Obstetrics and Gynecology department, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) spoke on the theme, “Women in leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World” as the guest speaker.
She said that in the war of Covid-19 pandemic, both men and women fought shoulder to shoulder at the forefront and that there was no question on gender when assigning roles. She added that she was ‘fortunate to be a frontline worker’.
Solo, who is also an alumni of the school, also laid emphasis on women empowerment, which according to her is “the need of the hour”.
She maintained that the society follows a patriarchal system where it was logical to have a male dominant social setup since centuries ago. She further encouraged the students to dream big and to believe in themselves to achieve their aspirations.
Sister Lucy Gangmei, principal of LFHSS, during her short speech also exhorted the students and called upon them to “give wins to their dreams”.
The event also highlighted the centenary anniversary (1923-2023) of the arrival of the six pioneering missionaries of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) to Guwahati, Assam (Northeast).
Keeping in tune with the celebration, the Past Pupil Association (PPA) of LFHSS, Kohima released a brochure entitled ‘Humble Beginnings’ which is a compilation of fleeting sketches of how these sisters created a community through patience, love and compassion.
Dorothy Jasokie, president of PPA in her introductory message said that, “it was only fitting to honour these pioneering sisters on International Women’s Day”.
The school along with past pupils also celebrated the occasion with female workers of the school to encourage and thank them for their hard work and tireless efforts even during the pandemic.
Following the Covid-19 standard operating procedures, only 50 percent each from classes 6 to10 attended the celebration organised by VIDES Club and Media Club of LFHSS.
