Meriema youth body bars government vehicles from July 1, demanding urgent NH-2 repairs after repeated appeals failed.
DIMAPUR — The Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) has announced a total restriction on the entry and movement of all government-registered vehicles within its jurisdiction, effective from July 1 onwards.
In a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner of Kohima, the organisation stated that the decision was prompted by the alleged non-compliance with representations submitted to the chief engineer of PWD (National Highways) on March 23 and June 12 seeking immediate repair of NH-2 falling within Meriema jurisdiction.
According to the MVYO, despite repeated requests, no effective action has been taken to restore the road, compelling the organisation to impose restrictions on the movement of government-registered vehicles within Meriema jurisdiction until the department initiates appropriate remedial measures.

However, it clarified that vehicles providing essential services would be exempted from the restriction. These include police vehicles, those belonging to paramilitary forces, ambulances and other emergency medical service vehicles.
The MVYO requested the district administration to extend necessary cooperation. It also appealed to the PWD (National Highways) to address the issues raised in its earlier representations at the earliest.
