No community transmission in Manipur, says officials; two medical officers, three nurses test positive for Covid-19

Imphal, June 22 (EMN): Even though the number of Covid-19 positive cases is increasing in the northeastern state of Manipur after the state authority conducted more than 1000 tests on a daily basis, there is no report of any community transmission in the state, officials said.

Confirming this, Covid-19 Common control room in a press release on Monday said, “There is no community transmission.”

However, the press release reported detection of five new positive cases without travel history including two medical officers, one nurse from district hospital, Bishnupur and two nurses from GBC, staff quarantine centre, Churachandpur district.

“In the last twenty four hours, 57 persons (41 male, 16 female) were confirmed Covid-19 positive cases from the VRDL (Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences-18) and JNIMS (Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences-39),”the release said. “52 of them are returnees from other states.”

They are being shifted to the Covid Care Facilities,it added. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The total numbers of positive and active cases are 898 and 648 respectively. The cumulative number of health care workers positive is six and active is five.

Confirming the report of detecting two doctors and one nurse in bishnupur district hospital, Dr. L Gojendro, Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur district said their samples were collected on June 19 and the report was made available on June 21 night.

He stated that the positive cases of the district hospital who are asymptomatic, have been transferred to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for further management.

As on Monday, 38,286 were tested for Covid-19, another official source added. Altogether 24,509 inmates were staying at quarantine centres including paid quarantine centres while 27,774 others completed quarantine.

Meanwhile as part of the ongoing drive on violators of lockdown/curfew, not wearing face masks in public and not maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Manipur Police have detained 636 persons and released later after warning, said the additional director general of police (Law and Order) L Kailun in a press release on Monday. Further, 445 vehicles were detained and altogether a sum of INR 78,050 was collected as fines as per law.
