DIMAPUR — The Nagaland National Pension System Government Service Employees Forum (NNPSGSEF) Kiphire unit held a general meeting at Government Higher Secondary School Kiphire on May 10.
According to an update, members from almost all departments in Kiphire district attended the meeting and extended their support to the district and central forums for the scrapping of the National Pension System (NPS) and the restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS) in Nagaland.
During the meeting, chaired by the president of the unit, Tsipise Antony, the pros and cons of NPS and OPS were highlighted to the gathering. Antony emphasised that with the current NPS for government employees, the future is at stake, citing the lack of proper pension benefits after retirement.
He stated that the NPS is a voluntary initiative introduced in India in 2004. The Nagaland government also implemented it in 2010. However, several Indian states have reverted to the OPS due to its perceived unfriendliness towards employees.
He reiterated that with the current unity, the demand to scrap NPS would be fulfilled. Therefore, he urged the gathering to persist in extending support for the general cause.
During the meeting, the house inducted two new members into office: Tsointhe Sangtam as vice president and Vilila Thonger as assistant general secretary. Representatives and in-charges from each department were also chosen for correspondence and other necessary tasks.
