Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): The Naga National Council (NNC) has declared that any settlement short of full sovereignty to the Indo-Naga political issue as per the Naga plebiscite of May 16, 1951, would be ‘singularly most unacceptable, now or ever’.

NNC president Gen. (Retd) Thinoselie M Keyho on Tuesday reiterated the ‘divinely’ inspired Naga national stand in the most unambiguous terms for the consumption of the people in general for the commission of catastrophic blunder.

“The single-most talked about topic for today; perhaps even more than the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the turbulent state of Nagaland is the disturbing Damocles’ Sword of the so called settlement between the government of India and the NSCN (IM) and the 7 NNPGs,” Keyho said.

He stated that the Naga National Council’s stand since inception has all along been for full Naga sovereignty and nothing less, as had been immortalised both in speech and more so in writing. He added that for the noble cause, the Nagas had been in active conflict with India for over 70 odd years.

“Hundreds of thousands had been subjected to tremendous sufferings, massive loss of wealth and property incurred besides substantial number of lives having been sacrificed. Sweat, tears and blood in superfluous quantum have been being shed and bled for total sovereignty’s nurture and in Her defence,” Keyho added.

He, therefore, stated that perchance, only at this late hours, if any inconsiderate minds in the form of certain groups of people (factions) with vested interests choose to inhumanely trade away the eternal Naga national rights and the peoples’ immense sufferings and sacrifices in tame surrender; such undertakings can never ever even begin to be considered as honourable and acceptable. He rather stated that such acts would most certainly go down in history as acts of outright abject betrayal of the worst kind and nature.
