Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) during an audience with the governor of Nagaland, PB Archarya, also the constitutional head and chief rector of Nagaland University (NU) presented a representation on June 12 seeking for establishment of a government law college and separate law department in Nagaland University at the earliest.
In a press note, Imliben Lemtur, NLSF president and general secretary Medochütuo Kiewuo said
that the dream to establish govt. law college and a law department in NU was a long pending demand of the student community in the state, more particularly the law students. But to their dismay, neither the Nagaland University nor the state government appear to take interest of the student community on their demand, or to take over any of the existing three law colleges( Mokokchung Law College and Kohima Law College, and City Law College, Dimapur) in the state which are all private owned institutions under its fold.
The federation also stated that NU also have not established a law department or any law institute, and under such exceptional situation, the university was conducting law examinations and conferring law degrees to the students of the three law colleges.
‘The members of the teaching faculties headed by the Principal of the three law colleges are gracious enough extending their free service in assisting the university in the management of the affairs of the law studies under the University’, they stated.
In view of the above situation, the federation said the students community in the state, particularly the poor students were facing so much hardship to study law courses in the State and added that establishing a law department and institute in NU will serve the students community, especially the law students in particular.
The NLSF expressed their sincere gratitude to the governor for hearing to their voice pragmatically and also for assuring to recommend their representation to the concern authorities.
The federation also reiterated to follow up with the concern authorities and to petition for the present government motto, “change is coming” in establishing its long cherished demand.
