KOHIMA — Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Kohima, on Monday held induction and freshers’ day for the third batch of MBBS.

The 100 new students of the MBBS batch 2025 were also vested with the white coat, which they will wear throughout the course.

Niketu Iralu, a social worker and activist for Healing and Restoration of Lives and Society, attended the event and addressed the students.

Iralu noted that the rapid pace of change in society brings both hope and challenges. According to him, societal change doesn't happen automatically, but rather through individuals deciding to take action and do what is right.

“Every moment, an individual is faced with what is right and what is easy. If one is to choose what is right and challenging then there is hope but if chose otherwise, then it will open doors of darkness,” he said.

He said that to create an impact in society, one needs to be sure and ask themselves whether they are choosing the challenging path or the easy one. He further added that God is more interested in obedience to what He tells each person to do and to be.

Welcoming the new batch of students, Director and Dean of NIMSR, Prof. Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, assured them that the teachers are always there to guide them and ensure they complete their course successfully.

She said that failure is a part of success, and encouraged them not to be disheartened by failures, as they are stepping stones to success. She emphasised that behind every success story, there are tales of failures, and it's the persistence and learning from those failures that ultimately lead to success.

Dr. Soumya Chakraborty also acknowledged that the path ahead may be challenging, but assured them that these challenges are preparing them to become tomorrow's doctors.

S Tainiu, Secretary of Health and Welfare and DDA, NIMSR, also delivered a short speech. Mr and Miss Freshers were also selected during the programme.

The MBBS programme at NIMSR had its first batch of 100 students in 2023, followed by the second batch in 2024. The seat allocation is as follows: 85 seats are reserved for students from Nagaland, while 15 seats are open to students from all over India.
