KOHIMA — Director and dean of the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, said that health is not anybody’s responsibility but one’s own.

She made this remark while addressing members of the media during the celebration of World Health Day and emphasising the theme ‘My health, my right’ at the college campus on Monday.

She further explained that this year’s theme revolves around the sharing of ownership or giving the onus to the citizens of the world that health is not solely anybody’s responsibility but is primarily self-responsibility.

She pointed out that health encompasses many facets, each with its own components spanning various aspects such as legal considerations, education, information dissemination, distributive justice, and more. She said that the theme is comprehensive and holistic in nature.

World Health Day, observed on April 7, fell on a Sunday this year. However, the college chose to celebrate the event on Monday.

They organised a quiz competition for the first batch of MBBS students at NIMSR, with assistance from the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) North East chapter. This event was aligned with the nationwide quiz competition for MBBS students commemorating the day.

The elimination round took place earlier on April 2, while the final round, comprising four groups with three members each, was held on Monday.

The professor mentioned that the quiz questions were theme-based, covering topics such as health, society, climate, environment, and education. She also informed that the college would be celebrating its foundation day later this month.

Nenghoikim Khongsai, Yomei L Konyak, and N Leai Shongdok, who represented Group A in the quiz competition, were named the winners. Group B, comprising Thsaropila Sangtam, Menuweiu T Mero, and Thungbeni Jami, emerged as the runners-up.
