Nikos Hospital sealed after patient from Assam dies

Dimapur, July 22 (EMN): The deputy commissioner and chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur, Anoop Khinchi, has ordered the sealing of Nikos Hospital and Research Centre in Dimapur with immediate effect till further order as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19, after an elderly man from Assam died at the facility on Tuesday.

Khinchi cautioned in his order that “any person violating these containment measures will be liable to be proceeded as per the provision of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 besides legal action under section 188 of the IPC”.

An update from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare informed that a 72-year-old man from Bokajan, Karbi Anglong in Assam, who was admitted to Nikos Hospital, on July 14 died on July 21.

"The patient was suffering from diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, and had cardiagenic shock, pulmonary oedema, and suffered cardio-respiratory failure," the update read.

It added that the sample of the deceased for Covid-19 test has been sent for confirmation through RT-PCR.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nyan Kikon, State Nodal Officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, said that the elderly man died because of co-morbid conditions.
