Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): To facilitate the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process and keeping in view the desire of the Naga people particularly Naga civil society organisations and NGOs, the Gen. (retired) Niki Sumi led NSCN (K) has decided to revive the ceasefire with immediate effect by revoking the earlier decision of unilateral abrogation of the ceasefire in 2015.

While acknowledging the sincere and genuine efforts made by the government of India in the recent past to find a final and lasting solution to the Naga issue with the involvement of all the stakeholders, NSCN/GPRN president Gen. (retired) Niki Sumi stated that his organisation has resolved to strengthen and support the peace process at this crucial juncture. He added their leaders have established contact with the officials of Gol in this connection.

Stating that NSCN/GPRN has been striving all these years to achieve an honourable and acceptable political solution to the Naga issue, Sumi said his organisation was also conscious of the overwhelming sentiments among the Naga people for an early solution to the long standing issue.

He expected the Gol to respond positively by honouring its decision as a confidence building measure in the larger interests of peace in Nagaland and Naga people in general.

Meanwhile, NSCN/GPRN has taken strong exception to a news report by one national television news channel for airing ‘unfounded and unauthenticated information.’ The news channel had alleged that NSCN/GPRN led by Gen. (retired) Niki Sumi was heading for surrender.

A NSCN/GPRN’s statement issued by its MIP deputy kilonser Nikato Pilot Sumi has reaffirmed its aspiration and commitment for Naga political rights till the time they achieve it.

He clarified that NSCN/GPRN established contact with GoI on the latter’s invitation in order to revive the ceasefire. He, however, stated that their gesture should not be misconstrued in any way as a sign of surrender or giving up Naga political rights.

“This reportage is outrageous and deserves utter condemnation for the simple fact that it is a false report and NSCN/GPRN totally condemns and rejects the media report. The reportage has been done without knowing even an iota of truth,” Sumi stated.
