Niathu Sports Festival 2014 culminates

The three-day Niathu Sports Festival 2014, which began November 20, hosted by Niathu Resort and organized by Niathu Privilege Club, under the theme ‘Unity Through Sports’ concluded here Saturday with Chief Minister of Nagaland T.R.Zeliang as chief guest.
Speaking at the closing programme, Zeliang lauded the efforts of the Niathu Privilege Club for promoting sports and for providing a platform where aspiring sports persons can exhibit their talents. Niathu sports festival, which started with just few sports, has now become a platform for all north east boys and girls, said the chief guest.Appreciating the participation of players from Manipur and Mizoram, Zeliang said that it was a great encouragement and suggested that north eastern states come together more by organizing such tournaments. North east people are talented and gifted by God but there is very less interaction and inter-state tournament, he lamented. He also suggested that NE states should select a good team by organizing tournaments and participate in the nationals and international level tournaments. Through this kind of participation, sports persons can bring laurels to the state and north east and a time will come when people from the country and world appreciate the boys and girls of north east, he added.
While encouraging young sports persons to become professionals, the chief guest also revealed that Nagaland dream to host national games or Olympics one day so that the state can improve infrastructure and games and sports.
Earlier giving the opening remark, MP Neiphiu Rio, who is the chief host, said that Niathu Privilege Club
which annually organize the sports festival as part of club’s initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes, is carrying out the dream and vision of DAN Government who also wants to promote youth and sports. While saying that it is a privilege to participate in the sports festival, Rio maintained that sports meet is very much a festival as it brings together people. It is a celebration especially for youth, he added. Congratulating the winners of the tournament, Rio said only the best wins and expressed his hope that they will continue to excel in higher level of competitions.
It may be mentioned that the sports festival is organized annually by Niathu Privilege Club under the theme ‘unity through sports’ as part of club’s initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and aim to promote sports and create a platform for the talented youngsters of the region to showcase their talents.
