DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28

BRAVING incessant rain, fashion lovers from across the State came to witness the Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) Design Award 2013 at Agri Expo site here tonight. With the aim to set a trend for designers who have the talent, this platform will provide a break to all the talented designers to connect to the global market. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Meghalaya Minister for Urban Affairs & labour Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed her joy to see young talents and said such talents need to be realized and nurtured. Appreciating the initiative of NIAPA, she coined the day as “fashion in the rain”.
Altogether 32 applications were received for the award, out of which 15 were shortlisted. The 15 designers showcased their designs in the midst of India’s top designer and choreographer Ajay Bisht, Vice Chancellor of Martin Luther’s College Shillong Robert G Lyngdoh and head of Bamboo Mission Khrienuo C Metha, who were the judges of the show.
The 15 designers were selected in three categories of designs – Fusion, Cocktail and Couture. The models walked the ramp showcasing the designs during the show.
With the display of the designs, new logo of NIAPA was launched by Maharaja of Tripura and the Editor of TNT Pradyod Deb.
Designer New Forever bagged the People’s Choice Award while Ikali Sukhalu received the NIAPA Designer Award 2013. The winner of NIAPA Designer Award 2013 will showcase her designs in New York Couture Fashion Week in February 2013. The awardees were selected through online polling.
