DIMAPUR— Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, who is also minister in-charge for National Highways, informed that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) is working on preventive measures along the Chümoukedima-Jharnapani (Pagala Pahar) stretch of NH-29, after the July 4 rockslide which killed two persons and injured three others.
Queried about the work progress of the NH-29 stretch, popularly known as ‘Pagala Pahar,’ after the meeting on NH-29A in Peren on August 9, Zeliang said that ‘the NHIDCL is constructing breast beam along the divider as temporary measures, but they will submit an estimate on earthwork to ensure protection in future. The implementing agency is working on for future plan and immediate measures for commuters’.
When asked if bench cutting will lower the risk of rockslides in future, he expressed confidence that it will provide safety for the commuters.
“If they go for bench cutting, the rock will not fall on the road but will fall on the bench. We have requested them and they have prepared an estimate for future protection,” the deputy chief minister added.
