NHIDCL completed only 6 projects out of 39 in Nagaland

DIMAPUR— The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has been awarded 39 projects in Nagaland from 2016 to 2023, out of which only six have been completed as of May this year.

Of the total projects in the state awarded to the NHIDCL during the period, 19 were under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP) scheme, 12 under the National Highways (Original) [NH(O)] (Tribal Sub Plan), and eight under the National Highways (Original)  North East (NE).

As per the status report updated by the NHIDCL, the total sanctioned cost or total project cost (TPC) for the 39 project is INR 13051.66 crore, out of which the awarded cost was INR 5923.96 crore.  

Out of the total projects, 12 have land acquisition issues and 9 contract issue, as per the data provided by the NHIDCL.

The Construction of 2-Lane with Hard shoulders of Chakabama-Zunheboto (C-Z) road on EPC (Design Km 50 -75) PKG-III, which was scheduled to be completed by September 3 2022, is yet to be completed as the work was halted due to land acquisition and contractor issue. It said that the project is likely to be completed by August 3 2023, having completed 84.36% progress.

Construction of 2-lane Kohima bypass road connecting NH-2 and NH 29 with paved shoulder from design Km 0.00 to Km 10.500 (Design Length- 10.500 km) (Pkg.- 1), and from design km 21.0 to km 32.0 (Design length=11.0 km) (Pkg.- 3) have land acquisition issue and have not made any physical progress with no scheduled date to begin work, it was informed.

However, it said the stretch of road from Km10.500 to 21.00Km [Design Length- 10.500 km] (Pkg.- 2) incl. (TUNNEL of 0.500 Km) have made 50.20% physical progress, and that also has land acquisition issue.

Among the 12 projects with land acquisition issue, five are yet to be given date of start/appointment. These projects are: two-lane road with hard shoulder in Peren Dimapur section from design Km 126.775 to Km 146.208 under NH(O)-TSP (Pkg-2) and from design Km 146.208 to Km 163.592 (Length- 17.384 km) under NH(O)-TSP (Pkg -3); widening to two-lane with hard shoulder of Akegwo Avangkhu section along NH-202K for Package-I (Design Chainage 0+000 Km to 34+795 Km) on EPC mode under NH (O)-NE, as well as Package-II and Package-III along the same stretch.
