Kohima, July 5 (EMN): Following restoration works that stretched for 24 hours, National Highway-29 was opened to traffic, both light and heavy vehicles, at around 7 pm on Friday.
Around 15 metres stretch of NH-29 near the old Kohima Municipal Council dumping site has sunk almost 2 metres deep—blocking normal traffic since Thursday morning.
According to the Executive Engineer of Public Works department (NH) Kohima division, Vikeshe Yepthomi, the department had to lay five hume pipes over the sinking area to make the road pliable.
He said that some vehicles were initially allowed to pass the stretch at around 2.30 am on Friday. ’And whatever damages were caused, it was repaired during the rest of the day,’ he said.
