DIMAPUR — The National Highway 29 (NH-29) at the Tsiedukhru range (Pagla Pahar) will partially reopen to traffic after more than two weeks of closure. Starting at 6 am on Saturday, the stretch between Chathe Bridge (Patkai junction) and New Chümoukedima village will be open for all vehicles.

Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John informed this will be one-way traffic regulated by traffic personnel.

Additionally, “the Chümoukedima Town (Old check gate) to New Chümoukedima via old Chümoukedima Village shall continue to remain close for all form of traffic from 6 pm to 6 am”, the DC said.

Earlier during the day, the DC held a review meeting to discuss the NH-29 restoration progress. The meeting, held at the DC’s office, was attended by officials from PWD, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), traffic police, local administration from Chümoukedima and Medziphema, village representatives from Chümoukedima and New Chümoukedima, Chakhroma Public Organisation and youth, and contractors.

The meeting focused on addressing challenges and strategising the next steps for the highway’s complete restoration, including the removal of overhanging rocks and restoration of two-lane traffic.
