DIMAPUR — The apex Lotha civil society organisations have issued an ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, demanding that work on the two-lane construction of NH-2 (Old NH-61) from KM 72.40 to KM 83.00 begin within five days.

In a press release on Thursday, the Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, Wokha District Village Council Chairmen Association, Joint Action Committee, and Wokha Town Colonies’ Chairmen Union, stated that several discussions and negotiations on the issue have already been pursued by the various apex CSOs of the district and the JAC, “all coming to naught.”

“District Administration is hereby informed that this ultimatum is served with the condition that no further negotiation/deliberation on the same shall be entertained henceforth,” it said.

On failure to comply, “We shall be compelled to announce indefinite bandh of the National Highway passing through Wokha district,” it cautioned.

Notably, the ultimatum comes a day after the Wokha DC issued a notification, informing the public that unauthorised structures along the aforementioned route would be removed by “use of force” on February 1, on the basis of the survey conducted by the Committee for Acquisition of Compensated Land.
