NGZCCA undertakes march to conserve environment

Dimapur, August 19: With a view to create awareness amongst the people, the Nanga Greener Zone Community Conserved Area (NGZCCA) had organised a green march on June 4 to mark the World Environment Day.
It may be mentioned here that the Nanga Greener Zone Project Management Committee (NGZPMC) with its motto ‘Protect and Save’ was formed on March 20 comprising 14 villages surrounding Nanga River and its adjoining upstreams, starting from Phuye/ Aichi Saghe to Sümi Settsü with a purpose to foster and promote cordial relationship among these villages and to protect flora and fauna in and around Nanga (Dikhu) river in line with global march on biodiversity protection.District Forest Officer, Zunheboto, Tokaho Kinimi, flagged off the march at Sümi Settsü around 7:30 A.M. In his speech, the DFO had appreciated NGZMC for organising such a unique programme and for bringing 14 Nanga adjoining villages together under one banner to protect and save the environment. He assured NGZMC of help from department side in future and also released “Unity in Conservation,” a documentary on NGZCCA.
CCA, which was divided into East and West blocks, started its march from Sapoti village in the east. The participants carried banners and placards with beautiful messages related to environment handed over to Zhekuto, who in turn, passed on to Kholeboto, Sürümi, AichiSaghe and Phuye New. In the west, the procession started from Sümi Settsü and moved towards Phuye Old village via Zaphumi, Lumami, Alaphu, Lumithsami, Lokobomi and Aotsakili. Both the team finally converged at Phuye Old village.
Hito Sema, ADC Atoizu, graced the closing function as the guest of honour. He exhorted the gathering to be bold and work continuously to preserve and protect the environment and to make it a better place to live. While citing some natural calamities encountered in recent days and months, he warned of more destruction if precautions were not taken at the right time and right place.
As an appreciation and encouragement, the ADC contributed financial help to the organisers.
The chairman of NGZ, Tokugha Chopy, has appreciated all the participating villages and thanked the Forest Department and Foundation for Ecological Security (North East) for sponsoring the event.
