Imphal, June 23 (EMN): With National Democratic Alliance Presidential (NDA) nominee Ram Nath Kovind and opposition Congress backed candidate Meira Kumar as main contenders for the July 17 presidential elections, a young NGO leader from Manipur is also ready fight in the elections of the country’s top post if he gets signatures of 100 MPs and MLAs. Founder, Chairman and Managing Director & CEO of D-Cacus Education Centre Manipur Dr Ibochouba Singh Konthoujam, in a message circulated in the social media here said “So all MPs and MLAs of India are requested to get me signatures for nomination of presidential election of India 2017.
If I’m not getting the support of your signatures I will not file my nomination. This is not a joke for me, this is my seriousness” Said Konthoujam.Forty two year old Dr Konthoujam who need support of 100 electors (100 MPs and MLAs) as seconders and proposers for qualifying the nomination before June 28, said, “So I’m approaching the MPs and MLAs in Delhi ,Karnataka, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh apart from Manipur, through my friends circle.” Dr Konthoujam, a resident of Ningkhoukhong village located on the side of Loktak, the largest fresh water lake in North East India through his NGO in Manipur have been helping and supporting the BPL groups in different sector during since last 28 years “without single money from the government.”
“I am not saying the ongoing development works by the central government are not encouraging. But my satisfaction level is different from it,” he told HT on phone.
“But I have good plans for all development sectors including restructuring old types of administrative systems. But I cannot apply all these things due to my status in the country.” According to political observers, a citizen of Manipur to become the president of India would be merely a dream for sure as the state has just three MPs (Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha) besides 60 MLAs not to speak of its state size. If he (Dr IS Konthoujam) is defeated the defeat would be of the number game, an observer felt.
