NFR realises INR 39 cr. from ticketless travellers

Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) detected 563228 cases from ticketless travellers and un-booked luggage cases from January to July this year.

“During checking, a total of 544218 cases of without ticket/irregular ticket travellers were detected and an amount of INR 38.50 crore was realised from them. An amount of INR 0.23 crore was also realised from 19010 passengers travelling with excess and un-booked luggage,” said Chief Public Relations Officer P J Sharma. “This is about 13.17% more in terms of numbers of penalty cases detected and 16.55% higher in terms of earnings for the corresponding period of last year,” he said.

During this period, he said that 14 magisterial checks were also conducted and 136 persons were apprehended and fine amounting to INR. 89,410.00.

Stating that the NFR also surpassed the proportionate target of passenger earnings, he informed that the earnings during this period was INR 626.21 crore which is 2.52% more than the given target of INR 610.79 crore and 4.87% more than the corresponding period of last year.

Number of passenger also increased to 381.87 lakhs during this period, which is 3.21% more than the target of 370.00 lakh, he said. To curb the menace of ticketless travel, he said that surprise checking is undertaken regularly.
