NFR: Railway ministry to upgrade 1309 stations under Amrit Bharat Station scheme

DIMAPUR — For development of railway stations, the Railway Ministry has formulated modernisation and upgradation plans of stations on Indian Railways under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme.

Among the 1309 stations identified, New Jalpaiguri station under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will be redeveloped in a major way as an International Train Terminal for providing better, additional and enhanced passenger amenities, an update from NFR informed.

At present, in the redevelopment work, dismantling of existing structures at location of departure terminal building has been completed. Excavation work for foundation is also in progress.

The update further informed that the station will have a huge roof plaza equipped with state-of-the-art passenger amenities while waiting lounge, cafeteria, lift-escalator and podium parking would also be arranged.

Also, the entire station is said to be become disabled friendly with all necessary facilities.

There will be separate arrangements for arrival and departure for smooth movement of passengers. For environmental protection, the station will be developed as a green building and arrangements for solar energy and water conservation system will be installed too.

New Jalpaiguri station is one of the largest and the busiest railway stations of NFR serving as a crucial point for all the northeastern states.

The redeveloped New Jalpaiguri Railway Station will not only provide world class facilities to the passengers, but the redevelopment of this station will also give a boost to the tourism and industry of the region, informed the update.
