Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): As part of “Swachh Rail Mission” and to empower women with opportunities of livelihood, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken an initiative to engage Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to keep railway stations clean in Hailakandi district of Assam.
In an update, Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda said that the NFR Hailakandi District Administration collaborated through signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide better scope for employment to women.
SHGs like Nabonita SHG, Loknath SHG and Maa Manosha SHG have been engaged to maintain three stations namely Panchgram, Hailakandi and Lalabazar stations through National Rural & Urban Livelihood Missions (NRLM).
This initiative will augment the employment scope to needy women of the locality, the officer said.
Involvement of women SHGs in adoption and cleaning stations will reduce the activities of anti-social elements, he opined.
Cleanliness of stations with participation of local SHGs will also result community ownership of the stations, he added.
