DIMAPUR, APRIL 1

FOLLOWING the completion of the first phase of fresh cutting for the Foothill road project, the Nagaland Foot Hill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has appealed the PWD (R&B) department to issue work orders “at the earliest” for the second phase that include the remaining sectors of Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng. A team from the NFHRCC is expected to meet the Chief Engineer of PWD (R&B), D Mero on Wednesday morning in Kohima to communicate the same. This decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the NFHRCC here today in Dimapur.
In Mokokchung sector, the first phase which included fresh cutting works on roughly 4 kms stretch was finished as early as January last. For the past two months or so, there has been no construction activity in the sector since the department has yet to issue the necessary work orders.
The focus, it would appear, has been solely directed to Wokha sector in the past few months that have resulted in the negligence, though unintended, of the other sectors. The NFHRCC has set April as the deadline for completion of all fresh cutting works in all sectors.
It is expected that the NFHRCC members would appeal the PWD officials on Wednesday to allow fresh cutting activities in Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng sector to go ahead with or without the work orders.
The PWD department, currently, is not in a position to issue any work orders since the election code of conduct is in force in Nagaland. The meeting on Wednesday is expected to discuss alternate means to help ensure that the April deadline is strictly followed.
