NF Railway thrust on green initiative

Dimapur, Dec. 6 (EMN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has targeted to make all railway stations 100% LED lit by March,31 2018. This was issued in a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer NFR.
The release mentions that it’s a huge initiative in providing energy efficient lighting which help in conservation of the environment and that the initiative will also lead to an annual saving of Rs. 67 lakhs in the energy bill of the railway department.
At present the N.F. Railway is said to have 534 stations, out of which 101 stations is already 100% LED lit while works are on to make rest of the stations fully LED lit within the targeted period, stated the release.
Out of the 101 stations where LED lighting works have been completed; 35 are in Katihar Division, 14 are in Alipurduar division, 30 are in Rangiya division,16 are in Lumding division and six in Tinsukia division.
In another such initiative towards harvesting clean and green energy, N.F.Railway is said to have already commissioned many roof – top solar power plants over railway establishment producing around 980 KW of power for its official use. More such solar power plants are in the pipeline throughout N.F. Railway, stated the release.
