Dimapur, Sep. 20 (EMN): As per instructions issued by Railway Board, the Northeast Frontier Railway has revised the charges of porterage in railway stations charged by the Sahayaks w.e.f. Sep. 15. The porterage charges were last revised in 2012.
The new rate for carrying of luggage by Sahayaks upto 40 Kgs per head has been revised to INR 80; use of wheel chair/stretcher to INR 100; and carriage of luggage by trolley to INR 150.

Chief Public Relations Officer P J Sharma in a statement said that the economic and living conditions of the Sahayaks were a matter for concern and new rate is expected to be beneficial for the Sahayaks. He informed that railway has also been constructing sheds for Sahayaks around the station complex of big stations so that they can take adequate rest after performing work.

The realistic revision of the porterage charge is expected to curb overcharging by a section of the Sahayaks. Passengers are requested to pay as per the approved rates and to avail the service of the licensed Sahayaks.
