NF Railway intensifies ticket checking drive

Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NF) has informed that ‘ticket checking drive’ has been intensified in mail express and passenger trains to ensure eradication of ticketless travel and also to provide comfortable journey to genuine passenger.

According to an update by the NF Railway on Thursday, the operation is being conducted as per the section 137 of the Indian Railway Act of 1989 which states, ‘Travelling without ticket, improper ticket, or un-booked luggage is an offence punishable by imprisonment or fine or both.’

As a result of this, 59, 124 cases of irregular ticket passenger were detected in the month of April where an amount of INR 4.08 crore was earned from penalties imposed towards the defaulters. Last year’s data resulted with 50, 079 cases earning INR 3.32 crore. The increase in earnings is about 22.89 % and the increase in number of cases detected is about 18.06 % more in comparison to last year’s data, the update stated.

To discourage ticketless travellers, NF Railway had also assigned ‘flying ticket checking squads’ of divisions as well as ‘headquarter fortress checks’ in stations. The officers are nominated at headquarters and divisional levels from different department who are accompanied by security personal from Railway Protection Force and Govt. Railway Police., the update added.
