NF Railway aims 100% electrification of broad gauge routes
DIMAPUR — Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is moving forward with the aim of 100% electrification of all un-electrified broad gauge routes in the zone.
An official statement mentioned that this will minimise railways’ dependency on fossil fuels and will help in its mission mode for Indian Railways towards becoming the largest green railways in the world.
Out of the total routes in the Northeastern region, 921.01 km in Assam, 9.58 km in Meghalaya and 6 km in Nagaland have already been electrified. Moreover, 285.87 km in Bihar and 744.726 km in West Bengal have already been electrified under the jurisdiction of NF Railway.
For further speeding up the electrification works, Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON), Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), NFR/Construction and the Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) have been executing the electrification works in a phased manner in different sections over the zone.
Meanwhile, NF Railway jointly received the Safety Shield Award along with Southern Railway during the recently concluded 68th Railway Week Awards, 2023 for maintaining a high standard of efficiency in regards to various safety parameters during 2022–23.
