DIMAPUR — The N. F. Railway (NFR) has updated that it achieved milestones in various categories including freight loading, electrification, introduction of new trains and providing better amenities for passengers during the financial year 2023-24.

Informing that the NFR achieved best ever POL loading of 515 rakes in 2023-24 and registered 32% growth over target in maize loading, the update said it also rendered a remarkable service to the people of Manipur during ethnic conflict by transporting essential commodities in 139 wagons to Khongsang in Manipur.

NFR’s relentless efforts resulted in carrying more tonnage in spite of limited line capacity, it added.

A whopping 453 bogie covered wagons (BCNHL) rakes were released in just three months over NFR, it said, adding that system efficiency was enhanced “through proactive step of starting Closed Circuit rakes examination of BCNHL rakes at New Guwahati reducing movement of invalid empty rakes”.

“As a result of NFR’s continuous efforts, highest ever inward traffic of 35.30 million tonnes was achieved during FY 2023-24, which recorded a growth of 6.9% as compared to previous financial year,” read the update.

The NFR introduced 11 new trains and an equal number of conventional trains were converted to modern Linke Hofmann Busch rakes in 2023-24 to provide a better travel experience.

“On public demand, 34 pairs of Mail Express and Passenger trains were provided additional stoppages at 35 nos. of stations by NFR in 2023-24. Also, 151 nos. of coaches were permanently augmented in 25 pairs (62 rakes) of Mail Express trains to create additional berths for the waiting listed passengers.

“For crossing of passenger/pedestrian, during 2023-24, 10 foot over bridges were constructed over NFR. Also, to provide ease of movement for Divyangjans, aged and children on railway platforms, 04 lifts and 04 escalators were commissioned in 2023-24,” it added.
