Newly-elected EDTC councillors take oath of office
Election of chairman, dy. chairman postponed
DIMAPUR — The 11 newly-elected councilors of East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) took ‘Oath of Affirmation’ at Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dimapur, on Thursday, in the presence of Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries and Commerce and other officials.
The oath was administered by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Tinojongshi Chang, in accordance with Section 60 A of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
Congratulating the elected members, the DC termed the event a historic one as the ULB election was held in the state after 20 years with 33% women reservation for the first time.
The 11 councillors who took the oath of office Lireni Ovung (NDPP), Niuto Awomi (NDPP), Kanato Sema (IND), Manna Zhimo (NDPP), K Hokuto Murumi (NDPP), Vicky Achumi (IND), Olotoli A Yeptho (NDPP), Razou Dozo (NDPP), Alemla Tovi (NDPP), Khrishna Mech (NDPP) and Mugavi Swu (BJP).
Election of chairman, dy. chairman postponed
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner told media persons that election of the chairman and deputy chairman of EDTC was postponed following the demand of the councillors for two posts of deputy chairman.
The DC said that, as per the municipal act, there should be only one chairman and a deputy chairman, and therefore the election was deferred while they seek clarification from the state government.
Sharing about the process of election of chairman and deputy chairman, Tinojongshi said if there are two or more candidates, then they will go for ballot system. But if there is only one candidate, then that person will be elected unanimously.
The oath-taking of the newly-elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council is scheduled to take place on July 5.
