Dimapur, September 13 : The newly constructed suspension bridge spanning over 520 feet at Seitheke Basa - the lifeline of more than six villages under Chumukedima sub-division was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control Jacob Zhimomi this morning in presence of village elders.
The old bridge collapsed on August 13 last after the main structure was swept away by strong water current. However, with timely intervention of Zhimomi the villagers could construct a new bridge within a month.
Villagers informed that an average of two thousand commuters including students and office goers use the bridge on daily basis. Villagers have thanked the local MLA for his concern for the people and funding the construction of the bridge. Villagers said prompt action of Zhimomi has enabled them to construct a new bridge within one month. They were convinced that their local MLA continued to work for the people even in the days to come.
The bridge is the lifeline for Seitheke Basa village, Seitheke ‘A’ village, Seitheke ‘C’ village, Sodzulhou village, 7th Mile village and Model village.
