A new unit of the Young Men’s Christian Association is inaugurated at NEISSR in Chümoukedima to promote youth development and peacebuilding.

DIMAPUR — A new unit of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) was formally inaugurated at the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) in Chümoukedima on April 18.
According to an update, the ceremony was attended by Shamir J Thabah, Vernon Fernandez, Fr. Dr. C P Anto, Jose V Abraham, Dr. Andrew Ahoto, and Pochister Kharkongor, along with the faculty and students of NEISSR and staff of Peace Channel.
Delivering keynote messages, Shamir J Thabah underlined the need to create platforms for young people to showcase their abilities while promoting values of peace, unity, and service. Vernon Fernandez spoke on the global legacy of the YMCA and its role in fostering resilience and togetherness.

Fr. Dr. C P Anto highlighted the importance of teamwork, unity, and interfaith harmony, encouraging the youth to embrace ethical leadership. Dr. Andrew Ahoto, in his exhortation, stressed discipline and personal growth as key to shaping character and future leadership.
A major highlight of the event was the induction ceremony, led by Shamir J Thabah, where members took the YMCA Youth Pledge, committing themselves to the organisation’s mission and principles.
The confirmation of ad-hoc committee members and a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony were also conducted.
