DIMAPUR — Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Thungchanbemo Tungoe on Monday said that even though technology has made life easier, yet new and emerging technology has also contributed tremendously in polluting the air. 

Tungoe was speaking during the valedictory session of the awareness campaign on National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) organised by the Dimapur district administration, in collaboration with Livingstone Foundation Society and Breeze Women Welfare Association, at Livingstone Foundation International (LFI), Dimapur.

The CEO stressed on how the polluted air affects the health of the people, leading to diseases and loss of life. “Air is limitless but we never know when we will run out of clean air, so everyone needs to be serious about air pollution,” he said.

To reduce air pollution, Tungoe suggested various measures including planting more trees, minimal use of electronic gadgets, walking or cycling instead of driving vehicles, use of cloth bags instead of plastic carry bags while going to market.

He further urged everyone to take steps and do their part so that together humans can achieve the dream of saving planet earth.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Zakabo Rotokha, also elaborated on how air pollutants affect humans, and that every citizen has a role to play in improving air quality.

Results of inter-school competitions

More than 20 schools participated in the awareness campaign on NCAP and took part in various inter-school competitions.

In essay writing, Liniu Achumi from Charis High School secured first position, Kivikali Wotsa from St Peter’s School and Imlijungle Aier from Livingstone Foundation International shared second position while Peteneilhou Loucu from Corner Hr. Sec. School secured third place.

In slogan writing, Tolivi K Wotsa from Assembly of God Hr. Sc. School, Menuolenuo from Herbert Spencer School, and Avah Limsong from SD Jain Hr. Sec. School won first, second and third positions, respectively.

In poster making competition, Etoka from Cornerstone Hr. Sec. School, Violet Assumi from Spring Blossom Academy, and Nzanti T Yanthan from Lima AIer Hr. Sec. School won the first, second and third prizes, respectively.

In model exhibition making, Rimi Basumatary, Purba Dey, Vihaan Mishra and Ito Ayemi from Bethesda Hr. Sec. School won the first position; Ayala T Jamir, UNoto Kina, Rakovi Savio Rokho and Kewigiakhai Mpom from Livingstone Foundation International were placed second while Ankit Sharma, Anuj Kumar Sharma, Mugulu Keyho and Hemanjali Boro from SD Jain Hr. Sec. School, secured third place.
