New Market FC beat United 16 via tie-breaker
Kohima, September 2 (EMN): New Market FC narrowly defeated United 16 FC via tie-breaker 4-2 after playing a goalless draw and entered the semi-final round of the ongoing KTC Cup on Saturday.
The stubborn defensive United 16 FC side held on a goalless draw against New Market for 120 minutes. But hard luck for the United 16 as two key players failed to convert the spot kick during the shootout and gave the New Market their entry into the semis.
The muddy outfield played spoilsport as both teams struggled hard to break through the defensive line.
Despite the New Market side dominating the game, the team lacked a scoring touch with their key player Chisie Nyusou missing out in the tournament. Chisie Nyusou was the highest scorer of the Kohima Football League with 7 goals from 7 matches.
During the match, New Market made numerous efforts to find the back of the net but the rival defenders prevented them from scoring any goals in the thrilling encounter as the match ended in a goalless draw.
United goalkeeper V. Puro made a heroic save when Kevisalie Sechii fired a stunning kick in the first half and was also kept busy throughout the second half but couldn’t save the team during the penalty shootout.
Three yellow cards were issued to goalie V.Puro, Ngulie Pochury of United 16 FC and Kevisalie Sechii of New Market FC
Er.Lhoubeizo Kisiyie, president, Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) was the match patron of the day.
