Our Correspondent IMPHAL, April 18 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah today said that the NDA government has written a new chapter in the northeast by introducing DoNER ministry in the region and that now “the government will come to your doorsteps.” Speaking at a public rally at Singjamei Chingamathak Hao Ground, about 3 km south of Imphal during his maiden visit to the state, Shah assured that the northeast states will see more development activities as the BJP led government transforms the “Look East policy to Act East policy.” He recalled the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last Lok Sabha polls and the fact that three Union cabinet ministers and five ministers of state have visited the region to feel the pulse of the people. This never happened in the 10 years of UPA rule, Shah reminded. He cited the government’s move to establish a Rs 100 crore worth Sports University in Manipur as an example. “I hope with the establishment of this Sports University, children of northeast will bring gold medals in Olympic Games like Mary Kom,” Shah said. He also expressed concern over the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) election which is scheduled to be held on June 1 across 144 district councils under five hill districts of Manipur. But most of the party workers from Manipur hills could not understand the speech of their national president which was delivered in Hindi during the meeting. “I cannot understand fully but I think he speaks about development,” Ngachonmi, a party worker from Ukhrul said. After staying a night here and meeting party functionaries and others, Shah will return to New Delhi and then prepare for the April 21 Sikkim visit. He is scheduled to visit Meghalaya on April 23 and Arunachal Pradesh on April 24 and then Guwahati the following day. He is also scheduled to visit Tripura on April 27. Amit Shah takes 5-hour road journey from Dimapur to reach Imphal BJP President Amit Shah on Saturday undertook a five-hour road journey from Dimapur to Imphal, where he is slated to address a public meeting in the evening. Shah, who is on a four-day visit to the northeastern states, was supposed to travel by chopper but had to take the over 200-km mountainous road route due to bad weather. The BJP chief, accompanied by party’s general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal and senior leader Tapir Gao, is touring the northeastern region to strengthen the party base and connect with the people there.
