DIMAPUR — The first edition of the Kiphire District Football Championship, which started on August 20, concluded on Tuesday at the public ground in Kiphire with New Agers Football Club emerging as the champion.
New Agers Football Club were declared champions after a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw during the 90 minutes and an additional 14 minutes of play. Abide Football Club were the first runners-up.
The winners received a prize of INR 50,000 and the trophy, while the runners-up were awarded INR 30,000. Individual prizes were also given.
S Likhumla Sangtam, vice president of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO), was the guest of honour at the finale.

Addressing the gathering, she highlighted that sport teaches resilience in the face of setbacks, and, commenting on drugs and alcohol, she maintained that while these issues have gripped the youth, a tournament like this provides an opportunity to divert young minds.
She stated that education is the only way to combat all forms of evil and to succeed in life. She further emphasised the need for the contribution of everyone to overcome the challenges facing the district.
Commandant 41 Assam Rifle Kiphire, Colonel Vikee Lamoria, also spoke at the programme.
The championship was held exclusively for residents of Kiphire district. The players selected from this tournament will compete in the upcoming Dr. T. Ao Tournament.
A total of 10 clubs participated in the first edition of the Kiphire District Football Championship.
